Montenegro weather – although veering towards the Mediterranean type - is largely typified by the diversity of its patterns. Although rather small in size the country’s topography manages to squeeze in both a high mountainous region and as narrow coastal plain, which effectively shape the unique disposition of Montenegro weather. As whole however, weather in Montenegro is described as both sunny and wet, mountainous regions receiving some of the highest amounts of rainfall in Europe.
Coastal Regions
In Montenegro’s coastal regions winters are predominantly mild and the summers hot. During winter, sea temperatures range 10-12°C, and in summer between 25-28°C which along with the idyllic blue waters make swimming extremely enticing and pleasurable. In winter the prevailing moody weather is frequently intercepted by spells of fine conditions, sprinkled with warm and sunny days, set up against a backdrop of snow covered mountains.
Mountain Regions
Translated in English, Montenegro stands for “Black Mountain”. Unsurprisingly, more than 60% of the country’s territory consists of mountains of 1000 meters and above, rendering the landscape a picture-perfect image of breath-taking proportions.
Winters in the mountainous regions of Montenegro are anything but reliable: conditions tend to change fast and dramatically, so if you are planning trekking the mountains during this time of the year, make sure you come prepared, a trusted guide always by you side.
Montenegro weather in the mountains takes a temperate disposition during the summer season. However, despite the fact most of the country’s precipitation occurs during winter; rainfall remains a possibility at any given time.
